Operations disrupted at Delhi Airport following India’s military action in Pakistan

Indira Gandhi International Airport issued an advisory due to airspace restrictions affecting flights. Air India, SpiceJet, and IndiGo announced cancellations and delays. Passengers should check with airlines for updates, and refunds and rebooking options are available for affected travellers.

New Delhi:

Passengers were urged to either contact their airline directly or consult the airport’s official website for the latest updates on affected flights. The disruption follows heightened security measures after the Indian armed forces carried out missile strikes on terrorist targets across Pakistan. In response, airspace restrictions were swiftly enforced, leading to the cancellation of several flights by Indian airlines.

Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport issued an urgent advisory on Wednesday morning, advising passengers to check with their airlines for updated flight information following sudden changes in airspace conditions. The advisory, which was shared with the public early in the day, revealed that several flights had been affected by the shifting airspace restrictions.

Air India, SpiceJet, IndiGo issues advisory for Delhi bound passengers

Air India, in a statement, confirmed that flights to and from several key destinations, including Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot, were cancelled until noon. Additionally, two international flights bound for Amritsar were diverted to Delhi as a precautionary measure. The airline expressed regret over the inconvenience caused, citing the unforeseen situation as the cause of the disruptions.

IndiGo followed with similar updates, confirming that flights to and from Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, and Dharamshala were impacted due to the evolving airspace conditions in the region.

Meanwhile, SpiceJet also informed passengers of the closures at airports across northern India, including Dharamshala, Leh, Jammu, Srinagar, and Amritsar. The airline cautioned that departures, arrivals, and connecting flights could face delays or cancellations as a result of the airspace restrictions.

India’s retaliatory military action in Pakistan

These disruptions stemmed from a significant military operation earlier in the day, where India’s armed forces conducted missile strikes targeting nine terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Among the sites hit were a Jaish-e-Mohammad stronghold in Bahawalpur and a Lashkar-e-Taiba base in Muridke, both believed to be key centres of terror activity.
