IndiGo flight receives bomb threat following India’s missile attack on Pakistan

: A bomb threat at Mumbai airport targeting an IndiGo flight caused a security lockdown amid rising India-Pakistan tensions post-Operation Sindoor. Though unverified, it highlights national security concerns. Investigations continue as flight disruptions impact northern India and safety remains paramount.

Mumbai:

The tip-off set off a chain reaction of security measures as bomb disposal units were swiftly deployed, while large sections of the airport were cordoned off. Airport operations came to a near standstill as officials treated the threat with the utmost seriousness. “We are proceeding under the assumption that this is a credible threat until all checks are completed,” said a senior airport official, speaking on condition of anonymity, as quoted by  “Our top priority is ensuring the safety of passengers and crew.”

A palpable sense of unease descended on Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in the early hours of Wednesday after a bomb threat was received, heightening tensions in a country already on edge. The anonymous call, made to the airport’s emergency hotline, claimed there was an explosive device aboard an IndiGo flight.

Investigations into the bomb threat are ongoing. As of now, no explosive device had been found, but officials say they are not letting their guard down.

Operation Sindoor: India’s military action in POK & Pakistan

The Indian Army confirmed the offensive in a statement released shortly after 2 AM, describing the operation as a “decisive response” to the growing cross-border threat. “A little while ago, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor, hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir from where attacks against India have been orchestrated,” the statement read. It added that the targeted camps were linked to militant groups including Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.

The scare coincides with a sharp escalation in regional tensions, following India’s launch of Operation Sindoor, a series of missile attack targeting nine terrorist camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The strikes came in retaliation for a brutal terror attack in Pahalgam on 22 April, which left 26 civilians dead.

Flight operation disrupted across multiple airports in India; advisories issued

Meanwhile, IndiGo, Air India, SpiceJet are amongst the list of airlines that confirmed widespread flight disruptions on the social media platform X. Services to and from several northern cities, including Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, and Dharamshala, were affected due to airspace restrictions and operational challenges.

Later reports indicated that flights to and from Bikaner were also impacted.

In light of the heightened alert, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced it was closely monitoring the situation, reiterating that “passenger safety remains paramount.”
