Mumbai Indians made history by securing their second Women’s Premier League (WPL) title, defeating Delhi Capitals in a thrilling final at Brabourne Stadium. This marks a hat-trick of heartbreaks for Delhi, who have now lost three consecutive finals.
While Mumbai players erupted in celebration, led by Nita Ambani and the coaching staff, Delhi players walked off the field in disappointment. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to officially announce the prize money for WPL 2025, but sources indicate it will remain the same as last year.
Batting first after losing the toss, Mumbai Indians struggled early on but managed to post 149/7 in 20 overs, thanks to captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s 66 and Nat Sciver-Brunt’s crucial 30. In response, Delhi Capitals fell short by just 8 runs, finishing at 141/9. Despite a modest target, their batting lineup crumbled under pressure, leaving their players in tears as they once again missed out on the trophy.
Mumbai Indians, as winners, are expected to receive ₹6 crore, while runners-up Delhi Capitals will take home ₹3 crore. In WPL 2024, Royal Challengers Bengaluru had won the title against Delhi and were awarded ₹6 crore, a sum that Mumbai Indians are now set to claim.
