Massive fire engulfs Delhi University’s Guru Gobind Singh College in Pitampura

A major fire at Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce in Delhi began in the library and spread across three floors. Controlled within 45 minutes, no injuries were reported. An electrical short circuit is suspected; fire safety concerns remain.

The blaze began around 8:55 AM in the college library and quickly spread through three floors of the four-storey structure. As flames engulfed multiple classrooms, thick smoke billowed from broken windows, prompting an emergency evacuation of students and staff.

A major fire broke out at Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce in Pitampura on Thursday morning, causing significant damage to parts of the building and raising concerns about fire safety protocols on educational campuses.

Fire brought under control by DFS in under 45 minutes

Delhi Fire Services responded swiftly, deploying 11 fire engines to the site. Firefighters managed to bring the situation under control within 45 minutes, preventing the flames from reaching the top floor or adjoining buildings. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported.

“No injuries were reported,” a Delhi Fire Services official confirmed. Notably the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and detailed investigations is currently underway.

Although the cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed, early signs point to an electrical short circuit as a possible trigger. The incident has sparked renewed scrutiny over the adequacy of fire preparedness in educational institutions, particularly regarding regular inspections and the maintenance of firefighting equipment.
