She was recently seen in Mumbai, during an announcement of a prospective music video, further igniting speculations of her debut in Bollywood, and the entertainment industry at large.

Fame today works in myriad ways, and there is no better proof of this than the recent catapultion into the stratosphere of Instagram notoriety and the hallways of Bollywood, of ‘Monalisa’. A garland seller went viral during the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025.

Mumbai visit and comments

Monalisa who is still learning the craft said as her guru Mahendra Singh Lodhi said, ” We have presented to Monalisa the way she is and still learning. I have asked to even study as education will help.” Monalisa in this brief trip has reportedly seen most of Mumbai. 

On her favourites in the industry, Mona Lisa said she likes, ” Sonakshi Sinha as she had come to our area to shoot for Dabanng 2.” As for her favourite actor, she named Tiger Shroff.

Monalisa was recently in Mumbai to shoot her first music video with actor and writer Utkarsh Singh which they have shot in the outskirts of Mumbai. When asked about casting Monalisa, Utkarsh said, ” I was writing a song which was simple beauty and I thought of her. I reached out to her father who agreed to it immediately. ” The father Jai Singh said, “If a good song can help her win the love of people, why not. So we decided to do it.”

The Mona Lisa Phenomenon

Monalisa Bhonsale, a 16-year-old garland seller from Indore, came out of nowhere to become an overnight online sensation. Her images went viral during the 2025 Maha Kumbh held at Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. 

Recently there were also talks that she might soon be making her Bollywood debut, after filmmaker Sanoj was clicked with Monalisa in her village. While there are no official confirmations as such, some reports say that Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao’s elder brother, Amit Rao, will be seen opposite her in the movie.

Her distinctive facial features caught the eyes of many, and comparisons of her to the famous painting Mona Lisa by Leonardo Da Vinci were made. This made her extremely popular in the online world, with many memes and reels dedicated to her came to be shared in large numbers.
