John Abraham’s high-stakes thriller ‘The Diplomat’ makes OTT debut

The John Abraham and Sadia Khateeb starrer political thriller will be available on Netflix starting at 1:30 PM IST on May 9. Streaming giant Netflix took to Instagram on May 8 to announce the movie’s arrival on the platform, saying, “Mark your calendars. The Diplomat arrives on May 9 on Netflix.”
After a decent theatrical run and good reviews, John Abraham led The Diplomat is now coming to Netflix. On Netflix the movie is currently offered in Hindi only, with English subtitles also available.
OTT debut
The theme is current, with the storyline mirroring current events. The film is made in the backdrop of issues between India and Pakistan and the diplomatic issues that come in between the conflicts, something that is currently ongoing. This can result in good numbers for the film on Netflix.

John Abraham heads the cast and for once nails his performance. He looks suave, smart and handsome and emotes beautifully.
The film had a decent theatrical run. According to ‘Sacnilk’, the film, which was made on a budget of about ₹20 crores, made a lifetime total of Rs 40 crore at the Indian box office. The movie’s entry into the OTT space has been expected for some time now.
About the movie
The Diplomat is a political action thriller film directed by Shivam Nair and written by Ritesh Shah which stars John Abraham and Sadia Khateeb in the lead roles. The project was developed under the banner of T Series in collaboration with JA Entertainment.
It was inspired by the real-life incident involving Uzma Ahmed, a woman who fled from Pakistan to India in 2017, after being forced into marriage. This true story formed the basis for the film’s narrative. It explores the themes of tensions and risks faced by diplomats, in the backdrop of India-Pakistan conflict.
The Diplomat was theatrically released on 14 March 2025 to positive critical reviews and a decent commercial run.
