Now, Arjun Rampal, who is also a part of the upcoming movie, opened up about the struggles with the censorship board and called it “unfortunate”, in an exclusive conversation .
Diljit Dosanjh’s upcoming movie, Punjab 95, which is based on a human rights activist, Jaswant Singh Khalra, has been postponed and is facing delays by the Central Board of Certification (CBFC) for over a year. The censor board has suggested 120 cuts to the movie, and it is still unclear if the makers have agreed to the changes.
What did Arjun Rampal say on Punjab 95 controversy?
Speaking exclusively with , Arjun Rampal said, “It’s unfortunate what happened with Punjab 95 because it is a true story, it’s our history, but I’m sure they have their own reasons to control anything untoward happening as it is a sensitive topic.”
Directed by Honey Trehan, the movie is produced by Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Movies and stars Diljit Dosanjh, Kanwaljeet, Arjun Rampal, Suvinder Vicky and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan, among others.
Punjab 95 narrates the story of an ordinary man, Jaswant Singh Khalra, who, in his research, revealed about 25,000 illegal killings and cremations by the Punjab Police. He also shared that around 2,000 police officers were killed for not cooperating. It all started after he went to investigate about what happened to a family he knew and uncovered a massive cover-up. In September 1995, he was abducted from his home and taken to the police station. After a few days, he was found dead, and his body had signs of torture.
