Bengaluru weather: Early morning rains lash Karnataka capital

Bengaluru weather: The city witnessed rain on Tuesday early morning leading to waterlogging and traffic jams at several place in the city. The total number of deaths due to rain in the city reached to three.

Bengaluru: 

Morning showers also led to disruption across several parts of the city. Areas such as Shantinagar, Ashok Nagar and Wilson Garden recorded intense rainfall, hitting daily life. Poor visibility added to the woes.

The Karnataka capital witnessed rains early in the morning on Tuesday leading to traffic jams and waterlogging at several places. As per reports, road in front of Freedom Park witnessed massive waterlogging causing inconvenience to commuters. The unexpected downpour early morning left the road submerged, leading to traffic snarls and hardship for motorists navigating the stretch.

Videos from the area showed vehicles struggling to wade through the waterlogged lanes, highlighting the city’s ongoing drainage and infrastructure challenges during pre-monsoon showers.

Bengaluru rains claim three lives

Since yesterday when the city witnessed an average rainfall of 10.5cm, at least three people have died in the rain-related incidents in Bengaluru.

A 35-year-old woman was killed in a wall collapse yesterday after heavy rains lashed the city, inundating many low-lying areas and leading traffic to pile-up.

An elderly man and and a 12-year-old were electrocuted inside the flooded basement of an apartment in the city taking the death toll to three. Manmohan Kamath (63) was using an external motor to remove water from the cellar when he got electrocuted due to a short circuit. Dinesh (12), who was standing inside the flooded basement, was also electrocuted.

Politics over Bengaluru rains

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said the woes faced by the IT capital during rains was not new, but that the government was now working to fix them with a long-term solution.

BJP launched a scathing attack on the ruling Congress over mismanagement after Monday morning showers. Opposition BJP mounted an offensive against the ruling Congress, alleging that the crores of rupees spent over the last two years on the city’s infrastructure have yielded no results.

The Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said several areas in Bengaluru were affected due to unexpected rainfall. He stated that he had instructed officials to take up remodelling and de-silting of clogged stormwater drains (SWDs).
