Bangladesh appoint Shaun Tait as pace bowling coach

Shaun Tait has earlier worked as the bowling coach for Pakistan, West Indies and Afghanistan.

New Delhi:

Bangladesh named Shaun Tait as their new fast-bowling coach, agreeing a deal with the former Australia pacer until November. The right armer is set to join the Bangla Tigers later in May to replace former New Zealand seamer Andre Adams.

“This is international cricket, not a development team, and everyone expects the talent to bring results, which is very much my focus with the fast bowling group and most importantly, getting more wins for the team.

“To have the opportunity to work with Phil Simmons is equally as exciting, and I’m looking forward to the journey ahead,” Tait added.

Tait would work with the likes of Nahid Rana, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Hasan Mahmud among others as Bangladesh are set to play United Arab Emirates (UAE) in a two-match T20I series at Sharjah.

Tait would pair up with head coach Phil Simmons in the Bangladesh coaching set-up.

“It’s a good time to be involved with the Bangladesh cricket team right now, a bit of a new era if you like. It’s been spoken about many times recently—the young talent with the fast bowlers—which is great,” Tait said on Monday.

Tait retired form all forms of cricket in 2017 at the age of 34. Since then he has taken up coaching stints in the Big Bash League (BBL), Pakistan Super League (PSL), Lankan Premier League (LPL) and English County Cricket.

The former tearaway pacer’s playing career was curtailed due to injuries after six Tests, 35 ODIs and 21 T20Is, picking up 95 wickets with two four-wicket hauls.

He was the bowling coach of the Windies Test team and he had also served as the head coach of Chittagong Kings in the 2025 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

Tait was hired aftr Adams’ contract ran its course. The former right-arm pacer has earlier worked as the bowling coach for Pakistan, West Indies and Afghanistan.
