Apple reveals iOS 18 user rates: Here’s how many iPhones are up to date

Apple has shared updated adoption figures for iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. iOS 18 is now on 88% of recent iPhones and 82% of all active devices, outpacing last year’s iOS 17.

New Delhi:

iOS 18 has surpassed the adoption rate of iOS 17 recorded last year. Last year in June, 86% of iPhone users had iOS 17 and today that number has grown to 88%. Apple says it is Writing Tools, Genmoji and enhanced notifications that are encouraging people to upgrade their devices this year.

Apple has provided details on how many iPhones are running iOS 18. Apple reports that 88% of recent iPhones run on iOS 18 and 82% of all active iPhones currently have the latest iOS installed. This shows that adoption is up compared to earlier this year, when just 76% of new iPhones were on iOS 18.

Why iOS updates matter

Apple sees software updates as a main component of the iPhone. Apple says it can add new features and security updates to old iPhones due to the strong relationship between its hardware and software. With this approach, users can enjoy their devices for a longer period without missing new features.

Apple is expected to showcase the next iOS version at the Worldwide Developers Conference next week. Some rumours indicate that it may introduce significant design changes and new features for those with an iPhone.

iPad user rates also up

Apple also released the adoption rate for iPadOS 18. The update has been installed on 81% of recent iPads and 71% of all iPads that are currently in use. This data makes it clear that iPadOS 18 is being adopted at a quicker rate than iPadOS 17 was in June 2024.
