Snapchat launches Apple Watch app: Here’s what you can do
Snapchat has launched a pared-down Apple Watch app that focuses on messaging, allowing users to preview and reply to chats directly from their wrist. This move follows WhatsApp’s release of a fully integrated iPad app, adding new versatility and multitasking support.
New Delhi:
Apple Watch’s app ecosystem has seen a slow decline, with big names like Instagram, Uber and Slack withdrawing their support in recent years. Still, Snapchat’s presence signals that new innovations are coming to smartwatches and wearables.
Apple Watch is now getting Snapchat, giving people another convenient way to chat while moving around. Despite being smaller than the phone app, users can still use their wristwatch to check and reply to messages. Snapchat hopes to open up its platform to more devices, going beyond just mobile and web applications.
WhatsApp comes to iPad
Snapchat has introduced a new version of its app for desktop and TV only a month after another key player made a similar move. WhatsApp recently introduced its iPad app for the first time, making it possible for users to move beyond WhatsApp Web. The new feature supports voice and video calls with up to 32 participants and easy multitasking using iPadOS features like Stage Manager, Split View and Slide Over.
Now, users can easily communicate without having to switch between apps as often. This shows that social media apps are now designed for bigger screens and improved functions, turning ordinary devices into handy communication hubs.
What Snapchat on Apple Watch can do
The Apple Watch version of Snapchat doesn’t come with cameras or filters, so having dog ears or selfie lenses is not possible right now. This means you can use your Apple Watch to read incoming messages and respond using the keyboard, by writing on the screen or with voice-to-text. This way, you can keep up with messages without checking your phone all the time, particularly in moments when holding it is not possible.
This new feature on Apple Watch is part of Snapchat’s effort to reach users on various devices. Snapchat explained that its goal is to have the app work on “every device you have, including wearables,” demonstrating how dedicated it is to connecting users across different platforms.
