Airport operations disrupted at Hyderabad’s RGIA

Hundreds of passengers were stranded at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport after 18 domestic flights to northern India were cancelled. The cancellations were caused by heightened security measures and airspace restrictions following India’s 'Operation Sindoor,' targeting terror camps in Pakistan.

Hyderabad:

The cancellations came amid airspace restrictions prompted by the ongoing Indian Air Force exercises in Rajasthan, combined with escalating threats of retaliation from Pakistan. As a result, several key domestic routes from Hyderabad were severely affected.

Hundreds of travellers were left stranded at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Wednesday, after at least 18 domestic flights to northern India were cancelled. The widespread disruption followed a series of heightened security measures linked to “Operation Sindoor,” a large-scale military operation targeting terror camps in Pakistan.

Notably, the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad also issued a travel advisory for passengers yesterday on its official X (formerly Twitter) account.

Hyderabad Airport: Flights cancelled for multiple locations in North India

Flights to popular northern destinations such as Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Dharamshala, and Jodhpur were grounded, creating significant travel chaos. The airspace closure led to immediate cancellations, forcing airlines to stop operations. This left hundreds of passengers in limbo, scrambling for alternative arrangements.

Airlines quickly issued advisories to inform passengers about the cancellations, advising them to check for updates and confirm flight statuses directly with their carriers before heading to the airport. The disruptions are expected to continue as the situation evolves.

India’s military action in Pakistan

The strikes have heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif warning of retaliation during a televised address on Wednesday. The military action has further contributed to the security concerns, leading to the closure of several airports in northern India and exacerbating the already significant disruptions at Hyderabad Airport.

Operation Sindoor, launched by India’s armed forces, targeted nine high-value terror infrastructure sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Among the targets were the hideouts of notorious terror masterminds Maulana Masood Azhar and Hafiz Saeed, figures who have long been linked to militant activity in the region.

Given the fluidity of the situation, passengers are urged to remain vigilant and check real-time flight updates with their airlines before making their way to the airport.
