AirPods iOS 26 update: Studio recording, camera remote

At WWDC 2025, Apple revealed powerful new features for AirPods, including studio-quality voice recording and camera remote control. These features, coming via a free iOS 26 update, aim to make AirPods more useful for creators and video makers on the move.

New Delhi:

The announcement came on June 9 during Apple’s WWDC 2025 keynote, and the company says these updates will work across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The new features include studio-quality voice recording, remote camera control, and better call clarity thanks to Voice Isolation.

At WWDC 2025, Apple revealed some handy new updates for AirPods that go beyond just listening to music. These changes aim to make life easier for people who use AirPods for content creation, communication, or just snapping photos from afar. With iOS 26, AirPods 4, AirPods 4 with ANC, and AirPods Pro 2 are getting a few smart tools that turn them into more than just earbuds.

AirPods update: Studio-grade audio on the go

This feature will work in apps like Voice Memos, FaceTime, Messages dictation, and even third-party camera and video conferencing apps like Webex. It also supports CallKit, which means many calling apps can now benefit from cleaner sound output when using these AirPods.

For creators who often record podcasts, music, or even interviews outside a studio, Apple has added what it calls “studio-quality audio recording” to AirPods. Using the H2 chip, beamforming microphones, and Apple’s own audio tech, the updated AirPods aim to give more natural voice clarity. It’s meant to help even in noisy settings.

AirPods update: New camera remote trick

Another update is the ability to use your AirPods as a remote control for your iPhone or iPad’s camera. It’s pretty straightforward; while the Camera app or any compatible app is open, users can press and hold the stem of the AirPods to start a video recording or take a photo. Press again to stop.

For anyone trying to film themselves singing, dancing, or talking to the camera, this could come in handy. You don’t need to run back and forth anymore, just a quick press on the earbud can do the job.

AirPods Firmware: Public testing and availability

The updates are available now for developers via the Apple Developer Program and will roll out to the public next month under the Apple Beta Software Program. Apple says these features will be part of a free firmware update this fall and will require iOS 26, iPadOS 26, or macOS Tahoe 26.

Some features may not be available everywhere, and support could vary based on local laws and languages. For now, though, the tools are part of Apple’s wider push to turn AirPods into multi-use gadgets, not just audio accessories.
