All new Mumbai local trains to get automatic closing doors

The Railway Board also said that coaches already running on the Mumbai Suburban routes will also be changed. The board said that all coaches that are already in service will be redesigned, and automatic door closing systems will be added to them.

New Delhi: 

This decision was taken after a sad incident that happened on Monday morning between Diva and Mumbra stations in Thane district. In that accident, at least five people died and many others were hurt after falling from a very crowded local train. The goal of this new step is to improve safety and stop accidents that happen due to open train doors in Mumbai’s packed local trains.

The Railway Board also said that coaches already running on the Mumbai Suburban routes will also be changed. The board mentioned, “All coaches that are already in service will be redesigned, and automatic door closing systems will be added to them.”

Indian Railways said on Monday that all new train coaches made for Mumbai’s local train network will now have automatic doors that close on their own. This is being done to stop people from falling out of moving trains. The Railway Board shared in a statement that all coaches currently being made for the Mumbai Suburban trains will come with these automatic door systems.

Thane local train mishap

On Monday morning, a terrible accident took place between Diva and Mumbra stations in Thane. At least five people died, and many others got hurt after falling from an overcrowded local train. The accident took place around 9:30 am when two trains were passing each other from opposite directions.

People who were standing near the train doors on the footboards hit each other as the trains crossed paths. Many lost their balance and fell. Officials said eight people were seen falling, and five of them were declared dead after being taken to hospitals nearby. The rest had injuries. Early reports said that a total of 13 passengers might have fallen. More information is still awaited.
