New Delhi:Â
Sri Lankan player Kusal Mendis is likely to replace star English player Jos Buttler in Gujarat Titans’ squad for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. In a big blow to Titans’ campaign at the event, the Lankan wicketkeeper-batter’s replacement announcement would be made soon official.
Rearranged IPL to begin on May 17
According to a report in NewsWire, Buttler has notified the extension of the league’s scheduling as the primary reason for his unavailability for the IPL playoffs as it collides with England’s home series against the West Indies. England are to host the Caribbean side for three ODIs and as many T20Is, and the former English skipper has been included in both the squads. The Shubman Gill-led side, which is atop the points table with 8 wins from 11 games, will make an announcement regarding the same on Thursday or Friday.
The remainder of the IPL 2025, which has been rearranged, is scheduled to begin on May 17, Friday and all the remaining 17 matches will be played thereafter with the final slated to be played on June 3. Buttler, was meanwhile removed as the skipper of the English team after their recent loss to India and the early exit from Champions Trophy few weeks later
Buttler contributed with 500 runs at a remarkable average of 71.42 and an impressive strike-rate of 163.93. He has also slammed five half-centuries, including his best score of unbeaten 97, which powered GT to a fantastic victory. The Titans would be hoping to carry on the momentum with the race to the playoffs nearing.
Young sensational batter Harry Brook has taken over the captaincy reins from Buttler with the seasoned campaigner now focusing on just his primary role. Giving a priority to the national commitments over IPL for GT, Buttler is likely to return home soon and participate in the series against the West Indies side
