How producer Byg Byrd lighted touchpaper of Sidhu’s career

The rapper-producer duo is extremely important in music creation in hip hop. For Sidhu at the start of his career in Canada, it was with music producer Byg Byrd that he belted out a sequence of initial hits that catapulted him to fame in Canada, UK and India

New Delhi:

A new BBC documentary on the life and times of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala is all the rage now. Despite objections by the late singer’s parents, BBC has put the video out on YouTube, and it is currently receiving mixed reactions from his fans.

It was their hit single ‘So High’, one of the first collaborations between the two that blew up and resulted in Sidhu’s name becoming popular in not just Canada where the song was made, but also in the UK and back in India.

Even today, ‘So High’ has 870 million views on YouTube and remains one of the most popular songs by Sidhu Moose Wala. It is also one of the first songs through which many of his now ardent fans were introduced to the singer.

As one comment on the video, as a tribute to Sidhu’s legacy, read, “He was a bright star…he came for a short time achieved the peak of success and did everything to make his parents proud which many people fail to do even throughout their life…Hats off Sidhu Moosewala. Rest in peace and thankyou that you took birth in our country.. You will always be their in our hearts.”

The documentary traces his life, from his early times in Punjab to a shift in Canada, and an eventual return to Punjab with fame, notoriety and enemies, which led to his eventual death.

The Byg Byrd and Sidhu Moose Wala duo

In the documentary titled, ‘The Killing Call’ on YouTube, while it centres mostly around the murder of the singer, it also explores his career.

Principal in this is his time in Canada during his early attempts at making it in the music industry. It is here that Moose Wala came to know Byg Byrd and collaborated with him. It was the association between these two that led to a spate of early hits which shot Sidhu to fame. The name of Byg Byrd though has since been associated with Moose Wala and some of his early and biggest hits.

On how this relationship started, Byg Byrd said, “He actually reached out to me on Facebook and fairly quickly, the next day he was at the studio and that where it all kinda begun.” He also talked about Sidhu songwriting prowess, saying, “He was such a genius when it came to lyrics.”
