Dayal has special skill, justified why we retained him, says RCB mentor Karthik
Chasing a 214-run target against RCB, CSK could only make 211 for 5 in a thrilling IPL 2025 match.
New Delhi:Â
Yash Dayal turned out to be Royal Challengers Bengaluruâs hero in their thrilling two-run win over Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025. Chasing a 214-run target, CSK needed 15 runs off the last over and four runs off the last ball, bowled by Dayal.
Karthik also felt that the entire team rose as a unit that enable them to pull off the narrow victory that took them to the top of the standings and keep one foot on the play-offs.
âIt was a good team effort. Sometimes these kind of games uplift the mood and we are happy with how it transpired today. We had good batters â Jitesh, David and Romario â we know what these three are capable of, so try and get the maximum out of them but at the same time make them understand it is not an easy pitch to start on,â he said.
âWe have not had the rub of the green with the tosses, at times it has been tough to start, initially it has been sticky, it has been raining here, you have to make sure you are hitting strong shots.â
Speaking on Dayalâs resurgence and work ethic after the match, Karthik said: âIt will take a humongous effort to stop them scoring runs that were left in the last over, Yash being Yash, the way he delivered was outstanding.
âGood choice of word there â work ethic. He is right up there with some of the best that are there in India, the one thing that you see with the young crop of cricketers is how much they work hard behind the scenes, Yash is someone who is very diligent, comes to meeting with a paper and writes down everything what he wants to do, the execution might be up and down at times but one thing you will not get less from him is effort.
âHe always has a plan, he has got a special skill and that is one of the reasons we retained him. I think wrist spinners are worried that they will get hit, but Suyashâs name might not be there in the wickets column but his work has helped Krunal Pandya pick wickets.
The left-arm seamer not only denied CSK, but also dismissed MS Dhoni in the last over as CSK could make 12 runs. Dayal took 41 runs off four overs and took a wicket as RCB won their eighth match in 11 outings.
