iOS 19 to auto-sync public Wi-Fi credentials on iPhone, iPad, and Mac

Apple’s iOS 19 will introduce a new feature that syncs public Wi-Fi logins across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Once a user logs in on one device, others will connect automatically without re-entering details.

No more repeating captive portals

Consequently, you won’t need to input the same information on all of your devices. This is a helpful upgrade that aims to increase the smooth coordination of Apple devices in everyday work. People who use multiple Apple devices every day may experience a big improvement in Wi-Fi connectivity with this update.

Captive portals are common on public access Wi-Fi networks, usually consisting of a webpage where one needs to provide information such as name, email, or room number before even being able to log on to the Wi-Fi. Before the update, Apple users were needed to sign into each device individually. On iOS 19, with the application, authentication on any device will mean that all subsequent signed-in devices will automatically be granted access.

Part of a bigger ecosystem push

Apple has often justified how its seamless ecosystem provides so much value. Devices have already been connected by tools such as AirDrop, iCloud Keychain and Universal Clipboard. Wi-Fi syncing continues with that idea, enabling switching between devices with less hassle and effort, requiring no extra steps.

Based on existing plans, the rollout of Wi-Fi sync will be at the same time as the complete release of iOS 19 in 2025. Big iOS updates are typically shown at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which takes place annually in the month of June. More official information may be announced during the conference.

Although it does not present itself as a big splash of iOS 19, this feature is yet another step of Apple in continuing to fine-tune everyday experiences: improve the daily experiences of users when they are using their devices. This update would benefit most travellers and mobile professionals.
