bowlers help Gujarat Titans thrash KKR

Shubman Gill played a fabulous knock of 90 runs before Gujarat Titans (GT) bowlers produced an excellent display to help them comfortably defend the total of 198 runs and beat Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 39 runs in IPL 2025 on Monday.

 New Delhi:

Captain Shubman Gill led from the front as Gujarat Titans (GT) earned a dominant 39-run victory against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens on Monday to continue their winning run in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 and consolidate their spot on the top of the points table.

GT produced yet another commendable all-round performance to bag their second win in a row after beating Delhi Capitals in their last game.

The ace spinner finished with excellent figures of 2/25 off his 4 overs. Prasidh was also impressive in the middle overs as he conceded only 25 runs off his 4 overs and picked up the important wickets of Moeen Ali and Ramandeep Singh.

Mohammed Siraj too continued his impressive run with the new ball, removing KKR opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz cheaply on just 1 in the very first over.

Gujarat Titans inched closer to securing a spot in the playoffs with their clinical victory as they now sit comfortably on the top spot in the IPL 2025 points table with 12 points from six wins in 8 matches so far this season.

GT still have six games in hand and need to win another three to confirm their spot in the playoffs.

Rashid Khan, Prasidh Krishna help GT seal victory:

Gujarat Titans bowlers, led by the experienced Rashid Khan and Prasidh Krishna, produced an impressive performance to restrict KKR to 159/8 in 20 overs and wrap up a comfortable victory.

Rashid picked up the important wicket of Sunil Narine in the Powerplay before dismissing the dangerous Andre Russell cheaply on 21 in the 16th over to turn the game in GT’s favour.

Gill’s 90 and crucial knocks from Sudharsan and Buttler helped Gujarat Titans post a strong total of 198 runs, which was defended successfully by their bowlers, who produced a disciplined effort to keep the star-studded KKR batting line-up quiet in their own backyard.

Gill scored 90 off 55 balls, accelerating seamlessly after completing his fifty off just 34 balls. He looked in splendid touch, and his 90-run knock was studded with 10 fours and 3 sixes.

However, the GT skipper failed to convert it into a ton as he was dismissed on 90 by KKR pacer Vaibhav Arora in the 18th over after getting caught by Rinku Singh.

It was the second time in his IPL career that Gill fell victim to nervous 90s as he missed out on a ton. Sudharsan played exceptionally well for his 52 off 36 balls and attacked from the word go to ensure GT capitalised in the Powerplay.

Jos Buttler too continued his purple patch with a quickfire 23-ball 41, adding a valuable 58-run stand for the second wicket with Gill.

Asked to bat first, the visitors got off to a solid start, courtesy of their openers Gill and Sai Sudharsan, who added a brilliant 114-run stand for the first wicket.

Sudharsan played the aggressor’s role in the Powerplay as Gill took his time to settle down before the GT skipper upped the ante. The duo slammed half-centuries apiece, but Gill missed out on a well-deserved century by a whisker.
