Rajiv Thakur defends Kapil Sharma against arrogance claims ‘Would lose my mind if I became as famous as him’
Rajiv Thakur opened up about Kapil Sharma’s much-discussed fight with Sunil Grover.

Actor-comedian Kapil Sharma has often faced allegations of turning arrogant, particularly after his infamous fallout with The Kapil Sharma Show cast member Sunil Grover. Actor Upasana Singh, who played a pivotal role in Kapil’s previous comedy shows, once shared that he became too busy to greet her properly. Now, comedian Rajiv Thakur, who is also a part of Kapil’s The Great Indian Kapil Show, has come forward to defend Kapil, emphasizing the immense pressure he deals with. He also opened up about Kapil’s much-discussed fight with Sunil, which led to the latter’s exit from The Kapil Sharma Show—only for them to reunite years later on The Great Indian Kapil Show.
Addressing claims that Kapil became arrogant after achieving success, Rajiv said, “He is under a lot of pressure, and people don’t understand that. Who can memorize a 2 to 2.5-hour-long script? He has never fumbled, not even once. He adds a punch to every entry he makes. Besides performing, he has to welcome guests, make them feel comfortable, and sit with the channel’s creative team to work on the show.”
He added, “If the show has been running successfully for 10-12 years, it’s because of his effort and hard work. It’s not about arrogance. If I became as famous as him, I might lose my mind too.”
Rajiv Thakur also praised Kapil Sharma for staying grounded despite his success. “Nobody handles fame as well as he does. I, who doesn’t even have 5 percent of his success, sometimes feel irritated by fans. But you should see how warmly he meets his fans.”
Speaking about Kapil and Sunil’s fallout, Rajiv said, “Who doesn’t fight? If their fight was so serious, how are they still mingling and shooting together today? Money can make you work together, but if you observe the atmosphere on set, you’ll see they genuinely enjoy each other’s company. Even after the shoot, they sit together.” Rajiv pointed out that Kapil and Sunil’s careers didn’t suffer after they parted ways. “When Sunil wasn’t on the show, Kapil wasn’t facing losses, and vice versa. You can’t fake this camaraderie.”
After starring in back-to-back comedy shows, Kapil Sharma took a break before making a grand return with The Great Indian Kapil Show on Netflix in 2024. Rajiv Thakur recalled how Kapil Sharma never let his struggles affect those around him. “He was so strong that he didn’t let us feel anything. He never explained himself, because if he had, things would have escalated. Now that he stayed silent, everything has fallen into place and everyone wants to work with him,” he shared.
