She opened up about the emotional frictions and rivalries she had with big Bollywood stars back in the day. While she said that Rekha was jealous of her, she pitied Amitabh Bachchan and called Rajesh Khanna “Anpadh gunda”.

Veteran actress Moushumi Chatterjee has reflected on her dynamics with Rekha, the star status of Amitabh Bachchan and the success and downfall of Rajesh Khanna. The actress, who has worked in several Hindi films, including Dildar, Prem Bandhan, Mang Bharo Sajjan, Dassi, and Piku, made some shocking revelations about the Bollywood stars and the rifts she had with them.

Why was Rekha jealous of Moushumi?

Moushumi Chatterjee told the publication, “Rekha used to think I’m controlling Vinod Mehra’s life. Because she is sitting in his house, and (Vinod’s) mother used to tell me, ‘Indu, Vinod ki cupboard mein se envelope nikal do’ (Indu, take the envelope out from Vinod’s cupboard). So naturally, she used to not like it. Somehow, she used to feel Vinod used to listened to me more than anybody else.”

She further added, “She used to make faces while seeing me, as if she didn’t care. And once, I approached her and asked, ‘How did you do that? Do it again, in front of me?’ She got nervous. I don’t know if she remembers this.”

What did Moushumi Chatterjee say about Amitabh Bachchan?

Comparing Amitabh with Rajesh Khanna, she said, “Amitabh has managed to stay grounded despite immense success. Something that Rajesh Khanna failed at. He was blown up by his success. As the saying goes: ‘Ek anpadh gunda aur ek padhe likhe gunde mein bahaut farq hota hai’ (There is always a difference between a literate and illiterate goon). I have never seen Amitabh Bachchan with flatterers. However, Rajesh Khanna was always surrounded by these people. He needed that attention and pampering.”

In an interview with Filmfare, Moushumi Chatterjee said that she pities Amitabh Bachchan because “most of the time he is only performing because that is all that he knows”. She further added, “I might be wrong, but that’s how I feel about him. It is because of his image. He has a huge image, which nobody else has managed to achieve.”
