Virat Kohli On Cusp Of Multiple Records; Might Surpass Shikhar Dhawan And Sachin Tendulkar

Virat Kohli is on the verge of multiple records, and he might break them during the fixture against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy.

Dubai:

Virat Kohli might become the Indian batter with the most runs in the history of the Champions Trophy. He can overtake Sourav Ganguly and Shikhar Dhawan to become the highest run-scorer in the tournament history by an Indian batter.

Star India batter Virat Kohli showed signs of returning to form in the fixture against Pakistan with a hundred. The 36-year-old played a knock of unbeaten 100 runs while batting at No.3. Before the start of the tournament, there were concerns regarding Kohli’s form as he struggling during the Test series in Australia. However, he blasted a century to shut the critics. The former India captain will now have a chance to script his name in the record books during the fixture against New Zealand.

Dhawan has amassed 701 runs from 10 Champions Trophy matches, which is the most by any Indian batter. His highest score in those fixtures was 125. Sourav Ganguly is in second place with 665 runs from 13 matches. Virat Kohli is currently in the third position with a tally of 651 runs from 15 matches. 15 more runs will help Kohli surpass Ganguly, while racking up 51 runs will make him the top batter in the list of batters with most runs in the Champions Trophy history.

Notably, the right-handed batter needs only 85 runs to become only the fifth batter to score 3000 or more runs against New Zealand. The other batters to achieve the feat are Sachin Tendulkar (3345), Ricky Ponting (3145), Jacques Kallis (3071) and Joe Root (3068). He has amassed 2915 runs against New Zealand from 55 matches with an average of 47.01, including nine centuries.

Kohli will have a chance to reach the feat when the Indian team lock horns with New Zealand on Sunday, March 2, at the Dubai Cricket International Stadium.
