Victoria’s Secret ‘Security incident’ shuts US website
Victoria’s Secret is dealing with a serious cybersecurity issue and has taken down its US website and internal email systems. The incident, which began on May 26, has impacted customer service and distribution, though stores are still open. The company is investigating the incident with help from external experts.
New Delhi:
The website blackout started around Monday, May 26, and is still ongoing. When you try to visit the site, you’re greeted with a message saying the company has taken down the website and some services as a precaution. Customer care and some warehouse operations are also paused.
Victoria’s Secret is dealing with a serious security incident and has taken its US website offline, halted internal communications, and disrupted some store services. It does not seem to be just a simple outage, the lingerie giant has even told employees to stop using company tech for now.
Website warning and public message
Here’s what customers see when they try to shop online:
“We have taken down our website and some in store services as a precaution. Our team is working around the clock to fully restore operations. We appreciate your patience during this process.”
While the message tries to sound calm, it’s clear the breach is serious. The company hasn’t shared what kind of attack it was, how much data might be at risk, or whether customer information has been exposed.
Employees locked out, systems offline
On Wednesday, many Victoria’s Secret employees found themselves locked out of their email accounts. Passwords stopped working and there was no immediate explanation. That’s when the company started rolling out internal messages confirming a “security incident” and tapped external experts to investigate.
CEO Hillary Super told staff in a note seen by Bloomberg that recovery will take time. She confirmed that customer care and some distribution centre operations were affected. In-store shopping is still on, though some services are limited.
This isn’t just about Victoria’s secret
Victoria’s Secret isn’t the only one under fire. In recent weeks, several UK retailers were hit by cyberattacks too. Marks & Spencer said it expects a ₹3,430 crore hit (approx $403 million) to its profits after a breach caused major disruptions. Supermarket chain Co-op and luxury brand Harrods also reported intrusions.
What’s next?
The company is yet to share details on the kind of attack or whether customer data is safe. For now, shoppers will have to rely on physical stores while the tech team tries to untangle this digital mess.
Victoria’s Secret has called in external experts and is working to fix things. But with email systems still down and online shopping unavailable, it’s clear that recovery won’t be quick.
