Varun Chakaravarthy cleans up Glenn Maxwell with a ripper as PBKS star’s woeful run continues

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner Varun Chakaravarthy bowled a brilliant delivery to clean up Glenn Maxwell in his side's clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in IPL 2025 on Saturday, April 26.

New Delhi:

Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter Glenn Maxwell’s woeful run continued in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Saturday as he was dismissed cheaply once again in his side’s clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Maxwell was cleaned up by a brilliant delivery from KKR spinner Varun Chakaravarthy in the game.

Maxwell was dismissed by Chakaravarthy, who bowled a ripper to clean him up. It was a seam-up delivery from the mystery spinner, which Maxwell failed to read. The Aussie star went for a cut but was beaten comfortably as the ball took off the top of his off-stump. He was sent packing after scoring only 7 off 8 balls.

Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh guide PBKS to 201/4 in 20 overs:

Punjab Kings rode on brilliant half-centuries from openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh to post a strong total of 201/4 on the board in 20 overs. Priyansh slammed 69 off 35 balls laced with 8 fours and 4 sixes while Prabhsimran hammered 83 runs off just 49 balls studded with six sixes and as many fours to share a 120-run stand for the first wicket.

The opening partnership set the tone for Punjab Kings, however, the middle order failed to capitalise as KKR bowlers made a strong comeback in the death overs to restrict the visitors to 201/4 in 20 overs.

KKR will be looking to chase down the target successfully to bag their fourth win of the season and move up in the points table. The three-time champions are currently languishing at the 7th spot on the points table with six points from eight matches

Maxwell has so far scored only 41 runs in five innings for Punjab Kings in the ongoing IPL 2025. His 30-run knock against the Rajasthan Royals is his highest score in the season so far.

It was the fifth time Maxwell was dismissed by Chakaravarthy in the IPL in eight innings. The Australian batter has scored 50 runs off 33 balls and has been dismissed five times by the spinner.

Maxwell came out to bat at no.4 after Punjab Kings lost well-set opener Prabhsimran Singh on 160 following his 49-ball 83.

The Aussie batter was expected to capitalise and help Punjab continue their momentum. However, he failed to deliver again as his struggles in the tournament continued.
