Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam united after 36 years for Tamil action drama, Thug Life. The duo collaborated over three decades ago for the cult classic Nayaken, and they are back to recreate the magic on the big screen. Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam hosted an event in Chennai on Friday (18 April, 2025) to launch the first song from the movie.

From ensemble case to soul-stirring music and compelling narrative, the film is touted to break box office records. As the first song of the film releases, here’s everything you need to know about the Tamil movie.

Thug Life: Plot

In the first teaser of the film, Kamal Haasan is seen stepping into the role of Rangarayar Sakthivel Naiker, a mysterious figure in the world of crime. The video kicks off with striking visuals of a car cruising down a tree-lined road. The teaser showed Kamal Haasan as a gritty, bearded man who radiates rage as he takes on his enemies.

Thug Life: New song

On April 18, the makers launched the first song titled ‘Jinguchaa’ from the Tamil gangster action drama. The track is set against the backdrop of a wedding celebration and features Kamal Haasan and Silambarasan. The song is composed by AR Rahman while the lyrics are penned by Kamal Haasan.

Thug Life: Release date

Kamal Haasan and Trisha Krishnan starrer Thug Life is scheduled to hit theatres on June 5, 2025.

Directed by Mani Ratnam, Thug Life is jointly produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Movies, Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International and Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies. The film also features Trisha Krishnan. Aishwarya Lekshmi, Abhirami, Nassar, Pankaj Tripathi, Sanya Malhotra, Rohit Saraf, Ali Fazal, and Joju George, among others.
