Temperature soars over 45°C in Barmer
IMD has warned about the heatwave for multiple states. It has also issued a yellow alert in Delhi, red in Gujarat, and orange in Rajasthan. Temperatures have risen above 40°C in many parts, with Barmer recording the highest at 45.6°C.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has raised warning about heatwave warnings for Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra, indicating severe heatwaves in the coming days. The weather department has raised a yellow alert in Delhi, a red in Gujarat, and an orange alert in Rajasthan.
A little drop in temperature is anticipated around next weekend due to a forthcoming Western Disturbance (WD), which may bring relief in the form of scattered rain and dust storms.
Yellow alert in Delhi amid heatwave conditions
IMD has issued a yellow alert for Delhi as the national capital recorded a maximum temperature of 38.2C on Sunday, 3.1 degrees above the average of the season, whereas the minimum temperature was recorded at 18.5C, 1.5 degrees below normal. The weather department has predicted a heatwave with a mostly clear sky. Temperatures are expected to touch a maximum of 41C and a minimum of 21C. The weather forecast has predicted that Delhi will experience heatwave conditions, with maximum temperatures hovering between 39C and 42C in the next six days.
Rajasthan’s Barmar records 45.c
Other cities in Rajasthan are also experiencing extreme heat, with Jaisalmer recording 45.0°C, Chittorgarh at 43.2°C, Jodhpur at 43.0°C, Kota at 42.4°C, and Jalore at 42.0°C. The Jaipur Meteorological Center has issued a warning related to heatwave conditions, with temperatures expected to rise by 3 to 4 degrees in the coming days.
Barmer recorded a temperature of 45.6°C on Sunday, becoming the hottest city of the season. This is 6.8 degrees above the normal seasonal temperature and is also the highest recorded temperature in April. The weather department has issued an orange alert as temperatures persist to rise across the state.
Uttar Pradesh prepares for heatwave
Uttar Pradesh has geared up for an extended heatwave from April to June. The Bundelkhand region is expected to experience the worst conditions as per the weather department. Temperatures during the daytime are consistently surpassing 40°C, and night temperatures are also expected to remain unusually high.
On Saturday, Prayagraj registered a temperature of 41.6°C, 4.2 degrees above normal. The weather department has indicated that temperatures can exceed 45 degrees Celsius, with little to no rainfall expected during this period.
The heatwave warning has also been issued for Monday and Tuesday for Agra and the nearby districts, including Ghaziabad, Hapur, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Mathura, Hathras, Firozabad, and other adjacent areas.
Authorities have cautioned district administrations, and hospitals as well as cattle shelters have been advised to prepare for the heat-related emergencies.
