Switch 2 becomes Nintendo’s fastest selling console

Nintendo Switch 2 has become the fastest-selling Nintendo console ever, with over 3.5 million units sold globally in just four days. It launched alongside Mario Kart World and will soon get a Donkey Kong game, pushing demand even higher.

New Delhi:

The Nintendo Switch 2 has made a thunderous entry into the global gaming market, clocking over 3.5 million unit sales within four days of its launch on June 5. The numbers make it the fastest-selling Nintendo gaming console in history, overtaking the original Switch’s performance back in 2017.

Powered by upgraded hardware and launched alongside a new Mario Kart title, the Switch 2 has managed to spark excitement across casual and hardcore gamers alike. Internal data from Nintendo confirms the milestone.

What’s new in Nintendo Switch 2

GameChat is available to players with a Nintendo account and an internet connection, and will remain free till March 31, 2026. After that, users will need a Nintendo Switch Online membership to access the feature.

Doug Bowser, President and COO of Nintendo of America, said, “Fans around the world are showing their enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2 as an upgraded way to play at home and on the go. We are thankful for their response and happy to see the fun they are already having with Nintendo Switch 2.”

Nintendo’s new-generation handheld-console hybrid has received a serious upgrade. Switch 2 brings a full HD 1080p screen with support for 4K resolution when connected to a TV or monitor. It also features a more powerful processor, redesigned magnetic Joy-Con 2 controllers with mouse-like functions, and a new built-in GameChat feature for voice and video calls.

Pricing and availability

Nintendo Switch 2 is priced at $449.99 internationally, which is approximately ₹38,250 in India. A bundle version that includes a digital download of Mario Kart World is available at $499.99 or about ₹42,500. Availability in India has not yet been confirmed, but early demand overseas has led to several markets selling out of their launch inventory.

Nintendo has not released region-wise sales breakdowns yet, but the overall response hints at a strong start in North America, Japan, and Europe.

As of now, the Nintendo Switch 2 is not officially listed on Indian e-commerce sites, but parallel imports and grey market interest are already picking up. Fans here will be keeping a close watch on an India-specific announcement in the coming weeks.

Mario Kart World leads launch titles

The console launched globally with Mario Kart World, a fresh take on the classic franchise. This version includes open-world driving, dynamic weather, and up to 24 racers per match. It’s reportedly the most expansive Mario Kart game to date, with new gameplay mechanics and open exploration across terrains like cities, oceans and deserts.

The next big release is Donkey Kong Bananza, a 3D platformer featuring Donkey Kong in a wild, action-packed adventure. It is set to launch on July 17, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2.
