‘To Keep The Institution Going’: Sources Reveal Why Justice Varma Was Transferred To Allahabad HC

Justice Yashwant Varma, who is one of the seniormost judges, was sent back to his parent High Court, the Allahabad High Court, in order to “keep the institution going".

Delhi :

Justice Yashwant Varma, who is one of the seniormost judges, was sent back to his parent High Court, the Allahabad High Court, in order to “keep the institution going".

Meanwhile, said that the decision was taken because Varma is not among the top three senior most judges in Allahabad High Court.

“In order to keep the institution going, this decision to recommend his transfer was made," the aforementioned source said. “In Allahabad HC, he doesn’t remain in the top three senior most judges, hence the decision was taken," the source further added.

Justice Varma was transferred to Allahabad High Court on Thursday, a week after unaccounted cash was found in his official bungalow last week. The decision was taken by the Supreme Court Collegium in an emergency meeting on Thursday.

“After Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay’s report, the collegium will decide the future course of action. The collegium is actively considering the issue and the in-house enquiry would be as per the proper procedures," the source further added.

They also said that a report has been sought at the earliest from Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay.
