Skywalk at Hyderabad’s Secunderabad Railway Station
Hyderabad’s HMDA is constructing an elevated skywalk near Secunderabad Railway Station to enhance pedestrian safety and ease congestion, connecting key transport hubs and religious sites. A consultancy will manage design, implementation, and revenue, supporting the city’s broader urban connectivity plan.
Hyderabad:
This initiative forms part of a broader urban infrastructure strategy aimed at improving the pedestrian experience and enhancing connectivity across key transport hubs in the city. A request for proposals has been issued to appoint a consultancy firm that will steer the project from conceptualisation to final implementation.
In a significant move to improve pedestrian safety and ease congestion in one of Hyderabad’s busiest transit zones, the State government, through the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), has commenced preparations for the construction of an elevated skywalk near Secunderabad Railway Station. Enhanced connectivity with religious premises
The area is also home to popular religious landmarks, including a temple and a Gurdwara, both of which draw large numbers of devotees on a daily basis. The combined footfall from commuters and visitors has long overwhelmed existing infrastructure, resulting in persistent congestion and safety concerns. The new skywalk aims to provide a dedicated pedestrian corridor that will not only decongest the streets but also offer a safer and more efficient route for foot traffic.
Skywalk to serve as critical link between major transport & public nodes in Hyderabad
The proposed skywalk is set to serve as a critical link between several major transport and public nodes within the Secunderabad Railway Station premises. Once completed, the elevated structure will provide seamless pedestrian access between the railway station, the Secunderabad East and West Metro stations, the Rathifile bus terminal, and a number of nearby bus stops located at Gurdwara, Blue Sea, Chilkalguda, Bhoiguda, and Uppal.
Consultant to execute structural as well as architectural designs
The appointed consultant will be responsible for the project’s comprehensive execution, including the creation of architectural and structural designs, the preparation of a detailed project report with technical and financial specifications, the development of a viable revenue model, and management of the tendering process for contractors.
