Sita Navami, also known as Janaki Jayanti, is a deeply revered Hindu festival celebrated a month after Ram Navami. 

This auspicious occasion marks the divine appearance of Goddess Sita on Earth—widely regarded as the embodiment of virtue, strength, and devotion. Worshipped as Janaki, Maithili, and Siya, Goddess Sita is honoured for her role as Lord Ram’s consort and as a symbol of ideal womanhood in Hindu tradition.

When is Sita Navami 2025?

According to the Vedic Panchang, Sita Navami will fall on Monday, 5 May 2025. The Navami tithi begins at 7:35 AM on 5 May and ends at 8:38 AM on 6 May. As per Udaya Tithi (sunrise-based calculation), the fast will be observed on 5 May 2025.

How to Perform Sita Navami Puja

Wake up early, bathe, and thoroughly clean the home and prayer area.

Spread a yellow or red cloth on a chowki (wooden platform).

Install idols or images of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita.

Adorn Goddess Sita with bridal adornments and offer suhag items (symbolic of marital bliss).

Light a ghee or sesame oil lamp.

Offer rice grains (akshat), flowers, roli (vermilion), and incense.

Chant sacred mantras and offer red and yellow flowers.

Prepare and offer bhog (sacred food).

Conclude the puja with the reading of the Sita Navami vrat katha (fasting story) and performing the aarti.

This festival is a powerful reminder of feminine resilience and devotion, and a day to reflect on the values Goddess Sita stands for.

Sita Navami 2025 Shubh Muhurat:

The auspicious time (shubh muhurat) to perform the Sita Navami puja is between 10:58 AM and 1:38 PM on 5 May. Devotees will have a window of 2 hours and 40 minutes to perform the rituals and seek blessings from Lord Ram and Goddess Sita.

On this day, married women across India observe special rituals and fasts, praying for the long life of their husbands and the happiness and prosperity of their families. It is believed that observing the Sita Navami fast with devotion blesses women with akhand saubhagya (eternal marital bliss).

The festival is marked by devotional pujas dedicated to Lord Ram and Goddess Sita, accompanied by sacred mantras, offerings, and storytelling.
