Sigma launches 17-40mm F1.8 DC | Art Lens
Sigma has announced the 17-40mm F1.8 DC | Art, the world’s first APS-C zoom lens with a constant F1.8 aperture. It offers prime-like image quality, fast autofocus, and a lightweight design optimized for both photo and video.

The new 17-40mm model expands the focal length of the already renowned 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM | Art and reduces the total weight by a whopping 30 percent. It will launch on July 10, 2025, in L-Mount, Sony E-mount, and Fujifilm X Mount, and the Canon RF version in August.
Sigma has announced its new product the 17-40mm F1.8 DC | Art lens, a new standard zoom with a fixed F1.8 maximum aperture creating a new standard of innovation. The new Art-series lens is designed to the needs of photographers as well as videographers and provides the performance of a prime with the versatility of a zoom. It has produced a highly performing, lightweight tool that is designed to be creative in all shooting styles.
Compact, lightweight, and built for the field
The lens is powerful but portable. It is more than 30 percent lighter than the previous one and has a small filter thread of 67mm. The lens has a practical inner zoom mechanism, which keeps the lens at a constant length, making it ideal to use with a gimbal or tripod.
Sigma has equipped this lens with a High-response Linear Actuator (HLA) to achieve quick and silent autofocus that is also suited to video creators. The features such as low-focus breathing, a specific aperture ring (with clickless and lock possibilities, except for Canon RF), and an inner zoom mechanism contribute to convenient video handling and stability in recording.
The Sigma 17-40mm F1.8 DC | Art has a constant F1.8 aperture across the zoom range, for high-performance in low light and soft background bokeh. The optics have advanced aspherical elements.
Durability and customisation
The 17-40mm F1.8 DC | Art is equipped with dust-and splash-proof construction, water- and oil-repellent coating, and two AFL buttons with customizable control (depending on camera compatibility). It also provides Sigma mount conversion service and USB Dock compatibility to L-Mount users.
It will be available with L-Mount, Sony E-mount and Fujifilm X mounts beginning July 10, 2025, and the Canon RF mount version in August. It comes with a lens hood, front and rear caps, and a protective pouch.
