Actress Sharmin Segal is reportedly expecting her first child with her husband businessman Aman Mehta who she married in 2023. Segal shot to fame when she was cast in her uncle director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s debut Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.

Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar was the OTT debut of acclaimed director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, known for his opulent set pieces, fashion, and musical sequences. Through the series, Bhansali explores the cultural and social dynamics of Heeramandi, a district in the Indian freedom struggle of the 1940s.

The story of love and betrayal showcases themes of social change and politics though through the stories of courtesans and their patrons. 

Sharmin Segal who played Alamzeb in the series, someone who dreams of being a poetess but her mother wants her to be a courtesan, was one of the most popular characters from the show.

Segal though faced a lot of backlash of nepotism after the show aired. Some even took to criticising her performance and acting, with many memes floating on social media regarding the same.

A pleasant surprise:

The news of Segal expecting a child first came forward through a social media post by journalist Vickey Lalwani whose online  post read, “Sharmin Segal, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s niece and Deepak-Bella Segal’s elder daughter, is expecting her first baby.

 Good news is hard knocking the doors of Bhansali and Segal households; Sharmin is due anytime soon.

Remember you read this here FIRST. Sharmin made her Bollywood splash, playing Alamzeb, in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s acclaimed web show Heeramandi, which hit online on May 1 last year and airs on Netflix. Sharmin married Aman Mehta, the executive director of Torrent Pharmaceuticals, in 2023.

She has settled in Ahmedabad after marriage, but is currently in Mumbai for her delivery. Goes without saying that Sanjay, Bela and Deepak are dancing in the aisles. Ditto for Sharmin and Aman.”
