Screen flicker bug fixed, security enhanced – how to update
Google Pixel’s April 2025 update fixes screen flickering, improves camera and fingerprint issues, and patches key security flaws.
This April update is available for a wide range of Pixel devices—from the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series to the latest Pixel 9a and even the Pixel Tablet. Depending on your device, you’ll see slightly different version numbers, but the improvements are mostly the same across the board.
If you’re a Google Pixel user, there’s a new update waiting for you this April. Google has rolled out its latest monthly security patch, and while it’s not packed with new features, it brings some helpful fixes—especially one that addresses a screen flickering issue that’s been bothering many users.
Google Pixel update: What’s been fixed
Fingerprint scanner glitches: Some users noticed that their fingerprint sensor was unresponsive in certain situations. That bug’s been patched now.
Camera zoom problem: The update also improves camera stability when zooming in or out—this mainly affects the Pixel 6 and 7 series and the Pixel Fold.
Screen brightness flicker: This was a common complaint, especially when watching videos on apps like Netflix or Prime Video. The screen would suddenly dim or flicker. It started after the March update, and some users had been managing it by tweaking refresh rate settings. Thankfully, this patch resolves the issue properly.
Lock screen layout issue: Some folks saw overlapping elements on the lock screen’s weather and clock widgets. This fix should clean that up.
Pixel Launcher bugs: Switching or creating new users on a device sometimes causes hiccups with the Pixel Launcher. That’s been ironed out too.
Important Security Fixes Too
Google also patched several device-specific flaws for Pixels, including one linked to Google Assistant. Details on some of these vulnerabilities haven’t been made public yet, but they were rated either high or critical in severity—so this is an important update for your phone’s safety.
This update isn’t just about fixing bugs—it also patches some serious security vulnerabilities. Two high-severity issues, which were reportedly being actively exploited, have now been addressed. One involved a USB-related vulnerability that could have affected millions of Android devices, and another related to the Android kernel.
When Will You Get It?
The update is rolling out now, but you might not see it right away. Google says it may take a few days (or longer, depending on your carrier). You can always check manually by heading to:
Settings → System → Software updates → System update → Check for updates
Should You Update?
Definitely, even if you haven’t noticed any bugs yourself, the security improvements alone are worth it. Plus, getting rid of that annoying flickering screen issue is a big relief for anyone who streams a lot of content.
Keep your phone updated and running smoothly—this patch is a small one, but an important one.
