‘No one wants to work with each other’: Salman Khan on current generation of Bollywood stars
In a media interaction while promoting his upcoming film Sikandar, Salman Khan was asked about the current state of Bollywood and why it is on a decline. The actor spoke about the differences between the older and current generation of stars and the quality of films has changed over time.
New Delhi:
Salman Khan, who has been in the industry for over three decades now, gave his insights on the current state of Bollywood. Here is what he had to say about why the industry has not been seeing quality content.
Will there be a movie with the three Khans?
Following this, the actor was asked if has not been offered a film with the other Khans of Bollywood yet. To this, he replied that no director has approached him, Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan for a film together. He further explained that this is because having a film with the three biggest stars in the industry would be a huge responsibility. Also, the budget required for such a film would be astronomical.
So, when the pre-established stars are open to share their screen with their peers, why is the newer generation refusing to do so? Will this become one of the major reasons why Bollywood will see its eventual decline? Only time will tell.
Salman Khan on the current state of Bollywood
In a media interaction, Salman Khan was asked about why Bollywood’s recent performance has been tanking on all sides – the new generation of stars, the quality of film scripts and Box Office collections. First, Salman Khan touched upon the reasons why the current generation is struggling.
He revealed that one of the newer stars (unidentified) in the scene refused to be a co-lead actor in a film when Salman offered him a script. Salman explained that the newer generation does not want to work with each other.
He pointed out the fact that in the golden era of Bollywood, the biggest stars often worked with each other, built camaraderie and brought different fan bases together. He recalled his times with actors such as Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Sunny Deol and stated that teamwork is what made films profitable back then.
This led to stronger industry connections, better films with an air-tight cast and higher Box Office collections. But if the stars refuse to be team players, then the expected results will never be achieved.
However, he did not just blame it on the actors. Pointing fingers towards other industry professionals, he claimed that most producers and directors compete with each other.
Salman Khan opined that films must be made only if the script is perfect, not because they are trying to make a profit that pushes them ahead of their peers.
It is common public opinion that Bollywood films have been on the decline, as 2024 was one of the weakest years in terms of quality films and Box Office collections.
Many factors contribute to this, be it trying to grasp current trends to appease the newer generation or simply that no one wants to risk upsetting the masses by choosing a sensitive topic for a big-budget film.
