Saif Ali Khan explains why he took Taimur :

Saif Ali Khan was brutally stabbed six times in the back on January 16 by an intruder during an alleged failed robbery attempt. He had to undergo two major surgeries, with a three-inch knife blade removed from his spine. While many well-wishers extended their support, there were also speculations about the authenticity of the attack. Recently, the actor set the record straight, revealing that he fought the intruder alone, who was armed with two knives, until a house help intervened. He admitted that if the attacker had injured his neck or spine more severely, he could have been left paralyzed.

The actor shared that “something took over” him as he instinctively grabbed the intruder and pulled him down. However, since the attacker was armed, he retaliated by stabbing Saif in the back and neck. Saif explained that due to the adrenaline rush, he didn’t initially realize he was being stabbed. “I couldn’t handle it after a while as there were two knives in action. I was praying that someone could get this guy off me at this point,” Saif shared. At that moment, his house help, Geeta, intervened and managed to pull the intruder away from Saif. The two then “rolled away” from the room.

In an interaction with The Times of India, Saif recalled that he and Kareena were asleep in their room when, around 2 a.m., a house help rushed in, informing them that an intruder had entered Jeh’s room and was demanding money. Saif described how the masked intruder was armed with two knives. “I saw this guy holding (what I thought were) two sticks over Jeh’s bed – it was actually a hexa blade,” Saif shared.

Meanwhile, Kareena had taken Jeh to Taimur’s room to ensure their safety.  After securing the intruder, Saif rushed to the hospital in an auto-rickshaw, accompanied by Taimur and another house help, Hari, as no driver was available at that hour. Saif recalled how Taimur insisted on going with him, remaining ‘composed’ despite seeing his father covered in blood. The young boy even asked, “Are you going to die?” to which Saif calmly replied, “No.” While Taimur and Saif went to hospital, Kareena took Jeh to her sister Karisma Kapoor’s house.

Saif further revealed that they had locked the intruder inside Jeh’s room, but he managed to escape through the same drainpipe in the kids’ bathroom that he had used to enter.

It was only after reaching the hospital that Saif realized the severity of his injuries. The doctors informed him that ‘three-four inches of the knife has gone in his the shoulder blade and has worked its way right to the bloody spinal cord.’ Saif called it a ‘massive stab’ and how it nicked the cover of his spinal cord. He said that since the spinal fluid was coming out, he was feeling numbness in the leg. “That’s how close it came: Just one more millimetre and we’d be talking paralysis,” he said. Saif underwent a major six-hour-long surgery. Saif noted that it was the longest surgery he had ever undergone.

Although he now bears “30 of the most awful scars” from the attack, Saif acknowledged that his crucial veins and arteries remained unharmed, calling it a ‘miracle.’ “I don’t understand how he missed my carotid artery and jugular vein… it’s not possible to cut somebody’s neck the way my neck is cut, and not kill them,” he shared. Despite the traumatic experience, Saif described his recovery as “incredible and pain-free,” experiencing only muscular aches.
