SIT to be formed to prevent online betting: Telangana CM Revanth Reddy
Telugu actors and social media influencers were booked recently for promoting online betting apps.
Telangana CM Revanth Reddy said that the state government has decided to take strict action against online betting apps such as junglerummy.
He stated that a decision has been made to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to prevent and ban online betting apps. He said that there is also a need to revise the punishments in such cases. CM Revanth Reddy spoke in the Assembly as part of the Legislative Assembly sessions.
This comes after various actors and social media influencers were booked and summoned by police for questioning for promoting online betting apps. Some of those actors included prominent faces from Telugu film industry Vijay Devarakonda, Rana Daggubati, Lakshmi Manchu among others.
“We have investigated those who promoted online betting and rummy. It is not as if the problem has been solved by investigating those who promoted it. We have decided to form a SIT and put a stop to this. Action will be taken against anyone involved in online betting and crimes, regardless of their involvement,” he warned.
“Some are talking about the lack of law and order in the state. We are vigilant even if a minor incident occurs. They are making false allegations that peacekeeping has deteriorated in the state,” Revanth Reddy added.
Meanwhile, the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS sparred in the Assembly over BRS working president KTR’s remarks against Congress. He took exception to ministers intervening often when his party colleague Palla Rajeshwar Reddy was speaking.
