SC appointed central committee visits Kancha Gachibowli land at UoH

The four-member team is headed by Chairman Siddhanta Das. They conducted a field inspection and will submit complete details to the Supreme Court.

The four-member team is headed by Chairman Siddhanta Das. On April 3, Supreme Court issued an interim order, halting the felling of trees at Kancha Gachibowli land and ordered the committee to conduct a field inspection and submit a report.

Meanwhile, Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) officials have put up boards at several points on the HCU land stating that the lands belong to the government.

There are chances of the committee members holding a meeting with top government officials at 2 pm on Thursday, tv9 telugu reported.

In the wake of the committee’s arrival, the police have made tight security arrangements at HCU. The road leading to the East Campus has been blocked.

Four members of the centrally empowered Committee of Environment and Forest Departments have arrived at University of Hyderabad to inspect 400 acres of land in Kancha Gachibowli. It will conduct a field inspection and submit complete details to the Supreme Court.

The state government has claimed ownership over the land and made intentions clear to develop the 400-acre land into world class infrastructure.

The Supreme Court has asked the state government what the hurry was while referring to pictures of peacocks and deer fleeing from their habitats amid the destruction activity by the state government. The apex court asked why trees were being felled so urgently to undertake developmental activities.
