Rumi Jaffery to bring Sushant Singh Rajput’s last loved script back to life

Five years after Sushant Singh Rajput’s untimely death, filmmaker Rumi Jaffery is set to revive the late actor’s most cherished script. Calling it his “shraddhanjali,” Jaffery plans to finally bring the emotional project to life.

New Delhi:

It’s been five years since Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Mumbai apartment on June 14, 2020. What was initially reported as a suicide spiralled into one of India’s most polarising celebrity investigations, sparking nationwide grief, conspiracy theories, and widespread media frenzy.

While the film’s new cast and production schedule remain undisclosed, it’s clear that Jaffery’s intentions are guided by both artistic fulfilment and emotional closure.

Rumi Jaffery talks about working on SSR’s last loved script

The project, which had remained shelved since the pandemic, is finally being revived. In an exclusive conversation with News9Live, the filmmaker revealed that the script was revisited during a recent holiday. “I recently revisited the script while on holiday in Thailand—I had taken it out and started revising it again.

Now, I’m planning to bring this film to life with a suitable actor, a strong lead, because Sushant’s fans still ask me about it. This was Sushant’s last script, one he truly loved. He was incredibly excited about the project,” he said.

The film had initially been set to go on floors on May 20, 2020, but production had been indefinitely halted due to the nationwide lockdown announced on March 22 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This unexpected pause had put an emotional full stop on what could have been another significant milestone in SSR’s filmography.

According to Jaffery, the film’s delay still weighs heavily on him. “Had the film gone into production as planned, I believe things might have turned out differently,” he confessed, a sentiment that echoes the what-ifs many fans continue to express.

He added with heartfelt resolve, “Now, I’m ready to finally start this film. It will be my tribute, my shraddhanjali, to Sushant.”
