In an exclusive chat, Roshans director Shashi Ranjan recalls his delightful encounter with K-pop star Jackson Wang, revealing the singer’s unexpected love for Indian music. For the unversed, the duo met at the special dinner hosted by Hrithik Roshan and his family.
New Delhi:
During his ongoing visit to Mumbai, South Korean artist Jackson Wang was warmly welcomed back into the Roshan household. The singer, who is currently promoting his forthcoming album Magic Man 2, was hosted by Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan at the latter’s residence.
Who is Jackson Wang?
Known globally for his versatility, Jackson Wang isn’t only celebrated as a musician. He’s also recognised as a dancer, host, fashion entrepreneur, and former fencing champion. Before entering the music industry with GOT7 in 2014, he represented Hong Kong in sabre fencing at an international level.
Following his departure from JYP Entertainment, Wang launched his solo career under his self-founded label Team Wang. His debut solo album, Mirrors, made a notable impression on global charts, while Magic Man in 2022 further solidified his global popularity.
A reunion with the Roshan family was marked by a heartfelt dinner, capturing the attention of both Bollywood and K-pop fans alike.
Jackson Wang meets the Roshans:
Veteran filmmaker Rakesh Roshan dropped a heartfelt post on his Instagram. In the image, the K-pop idol could be seen leaning close to Hrithik’s mother, Pinkie Roshan, as the family posed for a group portrait. “Jackson welcome & god bless,” read the caption.
This interaction followed their first meeting during Jackson’s 2023 Mumbai trip when he performed at Lollapalooza India. It’s clear the bond has since been nurtured, with the Roshan household once again opening its doors to the GOT7 member during his week-long stay in India.
Jackson Wang in India:
In an exclusive interview with News9Live, Shashi Ranjan, the director of Netflix’s documentary Roshans, spoke about meeting Jackson Wang. “I didn’t know he was such a big Korean pop star. He came across as a very young guy from Hong Kong.
I was surprised by how much insight he has into Indian music, I had no idea. He listens to a lot of Indian songs and truly admires some of our greatest singers and musicians,” he said.
The filmmaker further added, “He did say he’s very fond of Indian music and finds it incredibly rich. He’s not just about dancing, there’s a lot of soul in what he does. He seemed relaxed, fresh, and very grounded.”
