Rishabh Pant slapped with heavy fine

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper Rishabh Pant was fined for the second time in IPL 2025 after breaching IPL Code of Conduct during his side's clash against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday.

New Delhi:

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) slipped to their fifth defeat in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as they suffered a crushing 54-run loss against a resurgent Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, April 27. Rishabh Pant’s woeful run continued as LSG failed to chase down the target of 216 runs against MI.

The left-hander was caught by Karn Sharma after playing a reverse sweep against Will Jacks and was sent packing cheaply. It was the sixth time this season that Pant failed to score in double digits for LSG.

The left-hander has so far managed only 110 runs in 10 matches for the franchise in what has been a forgettable season. Pant was bought by LSG for a whopping Rs 27 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction last year to become the most expensive player in IPL history.

Rishabh Pant’s dreadful run continues in IPL 2025:

Pant’s dreadful run with the bat continued against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium as he was once again dismissed cheaply on 4 off 2 balls. Pant came out to bat at number 4 after LSG lost in-form Nicholas Pooran, who looked in good touch for his 27 off 15 balls. Pant was expected to build a partnership with Mitchell Marsh, but he failed to do so.

Mumbai Indians hammered LSG by 54 runs at home after a dominant all-round performance. The hosts rode on brilliant half-centuries from opener Ryan Rickelton and Suryakumar Yadav to post a big total of 215/7 on the board in 20 overs. The bowlers, led by Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah, then produced a clinical display to bundle out LSG for 161 runs and seal a comprehensive victory for the five-time champions.

All other players, including the Impact player, who featured in the playing XI for LSG against Mumbai Indians on Sunday, will also be penalised Rs 6 lakh each or 25% of their match fee, whichever is the lesser.

While he failed to deliver with the bat, Pant was also fined heavily for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct for the second time this season. The LSG skipper was slapped with a fine of Rs 24 lakh for his side maintaining a slow over rate against Mumbai Indians.

This was Pant’s second offence of the season as the LSG skipper. He was earlier fined Rs 12 lakh for his side’s slow over rate against MI on April 04.
