Rains lash Mumbai, Navi Mumbai & Thane

Mumbai and nearby areas face pre-monsoon showers under a yellow alert. Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is forecast. Temperatures range from 26–34 degrees Celsius. Palghar remains cooler, while Navi Mumbai and Thane stay drier. Farmers should prepare for rainfall impacts.

Mumbai:

The weather shift has brought intermittent relief from the city’s oppressive summer heat. Skies have turned grey, and scattered showers have helped cool temperatures and rein in humidity, at least temporarily. The IMD has forecast more rainfall and thunderstorm activity today, providing a welcome pause from the harsh sunlight.

As pre-monsoon currents stir along Maharashtra’s Konkan coast, Mumbai and its surrounding areas, including Navi Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar, are experiencing the first real hints of seasonal change. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, warning of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching up to 50 km/h. Meanwhile, it has also been predicted that similar weather will persist till May 21 as per IMD’s weekly forecast.

IMD’s weekly weather forecast for Mumbai

Across the city, temperatures this week are expected to hover between 26 degrees Celsius and 34 degrees Celsius. The cloudy skies and patchy rain are clear indicators that the monsoon is edging closer, even if the rainfall so far has been uneven and confined to select pockets.

Weather in Navi Mumbai & Thane as per IMD’s report

Thane, which saw a light drizzle earlier this week, is forecast to remain dry today. The sun may still peek through partly cloudy skies, with maximum temperatures expected to touch 35 degrees Celsius and minimums settling near 28 degrees Celsius.

In Navi Mumbai, conditions remain largely dry under partly cloudy skies. Daytime temperatures range between 28 degrees Celsius and 33 degrees Celsius, offering a more tolerable climate. Palghar, experiencing similar weather, has recorded cooler nights with lows around 25 degrees Celsius. Local authorities have advised farmers to prepare for sudden rainfall, which could impact crop activities.
