RCB survive MI scare for first win in 10 years at Wankhede

Royal Challengers Bengaluru beat Mumbai Indians by 12 runs in their IPL 2025 match on Monday for their first victory at the Wankhede Stadium in 10 years.

New Delhi:

Royals Challengers Bengaluru continued their impressive form on the road, as they defeated five-time champions Mumbai Indians by 12 runs in an IPL 2025 game on Monday.

It was the first time since 2015 that RCB defeated MI at the Wankhede Stadium. Mumbai won the toss and opted to bowl and were belted all around the ground as RCB posted 221/5.

Kohli milestone

RCB’s batting revolved around quick half-centuries by skipper Rajat Patidar and Virat Kohli, who became the first Indian batter to reach 13,000 T20 runs.

Kohli becam the fifth batter to complete 13000 T20 runs and also the second-fastest to the landmark.

The former India skipper joins an elite list of Chris Gayle, Alex Hales, Shoaib Malik and Kieron Pollard to have scored over 13,000 runs in T20 cricket.

Patidar batted with authority as his 64 off 32 balls carried the momentum that Kohli’s 42-ball 67 created. Jitesh Sharma blasted 40 off 19 balls after arriving into the crease in the 15th over as RCB ended their innings on a blistering note.

Mumbai were slow in their run chase but came near their target after Tilak Varma (56 off 29 balls) and skipper Hardik Pandya (42 off 15) shifted gears with an 89-run partnership for the fifth wicket.

But Hardik’s elder brother Krunal Pandya (4/45) used all his experience to hold his nerve as took RCB to victory. He took three wickets in the final over of the game to complete his first four-wicket haul in the tournament.

Brief scores: Royal Challengers Bengaluru: 221/5 in 20 overs (Rajat Patidar 64, Virat Kohli 67, Devdutt Padikkal 37, Jitesh Sharma 40 not out; Hardik Pandya 2/45).

Mumbai Indians: 209/9 in 20 overs (Tilak Varma 56, Hardik Pandya 42; Krunal Pandya 4/45).

In their chase, Mumbai made a valiant late dash to reach their target but were stopped at 209/9 to go down for the fourth time in their opening five matches.

Mumbai are eighth in the standings while after their thrid win in four matches, RCB are third with six points, having won all their away matches so far in the tournament.
