RCB fans troll CSK with ‘jail jerseys’ outside Chinnaswamy before Southern Derby
Scenes of fan war broke outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium before the RCB vs CSK IPL 2025 clash, in which the RCBians went a step ahead and sold 'jail jerseys' to mock the CSK fans.
New Delhi:
On Saturday, it was time for a second Southern Derby in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) took on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a return clash of the tournament, this time at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
No matter the love being shared between the players of the two sides, scenes outside the stadium ahead of the clash told a different story altogether.
Meanwhile, it was an eighth win for RCB, who now sit atop the points table with 16 points to their credit in 11 games. CSK are still at the rock bottom with just two wins in 11 games. The two teams have three league games left each as RCB play Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on May 9 in Lucknow, while CSK will be up against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on May 7 in Kolkata.
RCB all but qualified:
RCB completed a double (their first) over CSK in the ongoing season, as they secured a nerve-racking win by two runs at their home to become all but qualified for the playoffs. The final over from Yash Dayal required CSK to score 15 runs to chase the 214-run target, but the five-time champions could manage just 12, going down for the ninth time in the IPL 2025.
Several fans who were present at the scene made videos and clicked pictures of the incident, which soon went viral on the internet. While every CSK fan fumed over the “cheap” trolling tactic of RCBians, highlighting how low they can stoop, the RCB supporters fell in love with the unique way of trolling their southern arch-rivals. The stalls had the tags of “Special RCB vs CSK jersey,” which tickled the funny bones of the RCB fans.
These jerseys resembled the outlook of a prisoner’s shirt, which is usually white in colour with black stripes on it. The jerseys were highly customised, specifically for the CSK fans who had come to the Karnataka capital to witness the highly anticipated clash.
White in colour, the jerseys had “2016-2017” imprinted on them, signifying the two years CSK were banished from the IPL, due to match-fixing charges.
For those who have visited a stadium for a cricket game, it must be easy to imagine the scenes that go on outside the ground. Fans of either side often engage in tussles, trolling each other all for the sake of their beloved franchise or the player that they go gaga about.
However, on the Saturday evening, the RCB fans went a step ahead and sold ‘jail jerseys’ to mock the CSK fans.
