PM Modi to take part in ‘Navkar Mahamantra Divas’ today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with others, chants 'Navkar Mahamantra' at 'Navkar Mahamantra Divas' program at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

New Delhi:

Soaked in the principles of non-violence, humility, and spiritual connection, the mantra pays tribute to the goodness of enlightened beings and encourages inner transformation. Mahavir was the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism, and his teachings promoted peace and harmony.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be taking part in the ‘Navkar Mahamantra Divas’ today, April 9, 2025, which will be held at Vigyan Bhawan in the national capital. On this occasion, PM Modi will also address the gathering. Navkar Mahamantra Divas is a celebration of spiritual harmony and moral consciousness. This celebration aims to connect people through the collective chanting of the Navkar Mahamantra, which is one of the most honoured chants in Jainism.

This event urges people to reflect on the values of self-cleansing, tolerance, and collective well-being. People from around 108 countries will join this global chant for peace and harmony.

Mahavir Jayanti will be observed on April 10. This day marks the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir. He was born in 615 BC in a royal family and was named ‘Vardhamana’ during his childhood. Around the age of 30, Vardhamana left his princely status and embarked on a spiritual journey in search of truth and enlightenment. He meditated for 12 years in a forest to reach ‘Kevala Jnana’ and then propagated the Dharma known as Jainism.

The festival of Mahavir Jayanti is celebrated to highlight the significance of Jainism globally, especially in India, with the key teaching of ‘ahinsa parmo dharma,’ or non-violence, holding great importance today.

The Jain community all around the world celebrates Mahavir’s birth anniversary with joy and excitement.
