PM Modi pays homage to Hedgewar, Golwalkar, other RSS founders in Nagpur

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Smruti Mandir, the memorial of RSS Sarsanghchalaks KB Hedgewar and M S Golwalkar and other founders in Nagpur for the first time since assuming office. He also inaugurated an eye centre.

Nagpur: 

 Prime Minister Narendra Modi who was in Nagpur today visited Smruti Mandir in the city and paid homage to RSS founders including the first two Sarsanghchalaks, KB Hedgewar and M S Golwalkar. He was accompanied by present RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

It was his first visit to the memorial since becoming the Prime Minister in 2014. During his visit. The Prime Minister also met other office bearers of the RSS and also clicked photos with them. Writing in Hindi on a message book, the PM noted that the memorials are dedicated to the values of Indian culture, nationalism, and the organisation.

Memorial an inspiration to lakhs of swamsevaks: PM Modi

The Prime Minister also visited Deekshabhoomi in the city, where Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar embraced Buddhism in 1956 along with his followers. “I am overwhelmed that I got an opportunity to visit Deekshabhoomi, one of the five ‘Panchthirth’ of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, in Nagpur. One can feel Babasaheb’s principles of social harmony, equality, and justice in this holy atmosphere here,” the Prime Minister wrote in his message in Hindi.

“The memorial of the two strong pillars of RSS is an inspiration to lakhs of swayamsevaks who have dedicated themselves to the service of the nation. I am overwhelmed to visit the Smruti Mandir, which cherishes the memories of Param Pujaniya Dr Hedgewar and Pujya Guruji,” he wrote. The Prime Minister’s visit to the memorial coincided with Sangh’s Gudi Padwa programme, on the occasion of the Hindu New Year. Former Prime Minister and BJP stalwart had earlier visited Smruti Mandir in 2000.

PM Modi launches eye centre

Later, he laid the foundation stone of the Madhav Netralaya Premium Centre, a new extension building of the Madhav Netralaya Eye Institute & Research Centre in the city. The centre is a premier super-specialty ophthalmic care facility, which was founded in memory of Golwalkar.
