PBKS sign 6ft 8in Kiwi star to replace injured Lockie Ferguson

IPL 2025: New Zealand star replaces his compatriot Lockie Ferguson, who pulled his hamstring in a league match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Uppal last month.

 New Delhi:

Punjab Kings (PBKS) have signed 6ft 8in New Zealand star Kyle Jamieson as a replacement for his compatriot Lockie Ferguson for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.

After a one-week halt due to the India-Pakistan military conflict, IPL will resume on May 17 with a mouthwatering clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

He joins the third-placed team for Rs 2 crore.

Ferguson has been out injured since pulling his hamstring in a league match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Uppal last month. Ferguson walked off the field after injuring his left hamstring while bowling during the away match in Hyderabad. He was initially ruled out of the tournament indefinitely, but according to the latest development, he will miss the remainder of the campaign.

GT and LSG also announce replacements:

Elsewhere, the Gujarat Titans have signed Kusal Mendis as a replacement for England icon Jos Buttler, who is set to leave for national duties after the league stage. Buttler will not participate in the play-off matches as he has decided to report to the England camp ahead of the white-ball series against West Indies at home. Mendis joins the 2022 champions for a price of Rs 75 Lakh

Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have roped in New Zealand fast bowler William O’Rourke as an injury replacement for Mayank Yadav. The Indian speedster has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a back injury. O’Rourke comes in as his replacement at a reserve price of Rs 3 crore

Meanwhile, Punjab will resume their campaign on May 18, Sunday, against the Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur. Ahead of the clash against the Royals, who have been knocked out of the play-offs race, Jamieson will join the PBKS squad.

The Kiwi fast bowler took five wickets in three innings with an economy rate of 9.16 this season.

Ferguson was sold to PBKS in the IPL 2025 mega auction last year for a price of Rs 2 crore. The tearaway quick was released by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) ahead of the 2025 IPL auction.
