Operation Sindoor follows, civil defence mock drill across multiple locations in Bengaluru

Karnataka Police will hold large-scale mock defence drills on Wednesday at 4 PM in Bengaluru, Karwar, and Raichur to assess threat preparedness. Bengaluru, Karwar, and Raichur will focus on sensitive sites, maritime security, and energy infrastructure respectively.

Bengaluru:

The move reflects a broader nationwide alert and is designed to test the state’s preparedness in the face of potential threats, while also strengthening coordination among emergency and security agencies. The Union government, which issued the directive for the simulation, identified these three locations due to their strategic and infrastructural importance.

In a swift and resolute response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, the Karnataka Police Department will today conduct large-scale mock defence drills across three key locations in the state; Bengaluru, Karwar, and Raichur. The drills, set for 4 PM on Wednesday, come on the heels of India’s retaliatory military operation targeting Pakistan-based terror groups.

35 high-powered sirens installed across Bengaluru

To simulate a real emergency, 35 high-powered siren systems have been installed across the city, of which 32 are currently functional. The sirens, audible up to three kilometres, will emit phased warning tones throughout the drill to alert and guide participants.

Civil defence mock drills across key locations in Bengaluru

In Bengaluru, the state capital and a hub for defence research and science, the mock exercise will be rolled out across multiple sensitive sites. These include the Indian Institute, Canara Bank, Bangalore Dairy, NAL (National Aerospace Laboratories), ESI Hospital, and CQL. Several police and fire stations, such as those in Yeshwanthpur, Rajajinagar, Banashankari and Electronics City, will also be involved.

Joint effort from defence & civil agencies

The simulation will involve a wide array of personnel, including members of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), the National Service Scheme (NSS), Civil Defence volunteers, medical teams, and local emergency services. Preparatory meetings have already been held between the Fire Services and Civil Defence departments to ensure seamless coordination.

Focus on maritime & energy infrastructure in Bengaluru

In coastal Karwar, home to the strategic INS Kadamba naval base and a major nuclear facility, the emphasis will be on maritime security and civil defence protocols. Meanwhile, Raichur’s inclusion stems from its significance to the state’s energy grid, its thermal power plant being a critical piece of infrastructure that would be prioritised during any national emergency.
