Not getting your audio overview from Gemini?
Gemini users are facing issues generating Audio Overviews, with error messages appearing despite notifications. The problem may relate to filters, bugs, or sensitive keywords.
If you’ve been using the Gemini app lately and tried to generate an Audio Overview, only to find that nothing happened—you’re not the only one scratching your head.
Recently, many users have noticed that the feature just isn’t working as expected. You go through the usual steps, you get the notification that it’s ready, but when you check the chat, there’s no audio—just an error message. So what’s going on?
Who’s Facing This Issue?
This isn’t just a one-off glitch. Users on Android and web platforms, whether they’re using Gemini 2.0 Flash or 2.5 Pro (experimental), are all reporting the same thing. The problem seems to happen with PDFs, but it might be affecting other file types too.
The odd part? Other features in the app still work fine. You can get text summaries of your document, ask follow-up questions, and even use the “Talk Live about this” option on mobile. It’s just the audio part that’s acting up.
What Can You Try?
If you’re running into this issue, here are a few things you can do that might help:
Try with a simple file: Upload a short, generic document. If it works, your original file might have specific words or formatting that’s triggering the problem.
Look out for sensitive terms: Words like patient, condition, treatment, or anything medical-related—even if not actually personal—that might set off the app’s safety filters.
Add a little context: Try telling Gemini in your prompt that the content isn’t related to health or personal info. It might help the system understand better.
Send feedback: Use the built-in feedback option in the chat window. Let Google know what’s going on so they can fix it quicker.
Why Is This Happening?
There could be a few things going on here. Some users are getting a different kind of error—one that says the request can’t be processed due to something called “Protected Health Information (PHI).”
Even when the document doesn’t contain anything medical or personal, Gemini might be overly cautious and block audio generation just in case.
Another possibility is that this is just a temporary bug. The app is still pretty new, and with new features like Audio Overviews rolling out, there are bound to be a few bumps along the way. Server traffic or backend issues could also be causing some of these errors.
