New Delhi: 

Apart from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh has recorded 10 deaths, Meghalaya six deaths, Sikkim three, and Tripura due to ongoing heavy rains in the region.

The Northeast parts of the country continue to remain under the group of severe floods and landslides due to heavy rains. While over 5.5 lakh people have been affected, the death toll has increased to 36. Assam has been the most affected state with 11 deaths.

Assam most affected

In Assam alone, close to 5.35 lakh people have been affected, across 22 districts. As many as 15 rivers in the state are flowing above the danger mark. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Lakhimpur district, which is one of the worst-hit areas. During his visit, the chief minister assured residents of all support.

The personnel who have lost their lives have been identified as Havaldar Lakhwinder Singh, Lance Naik Munish Thakur, and Porter Abhishek Lakhada. As per officials, rescue teams are working relentlessly to find the other six missing soldiers. As per Sikkim DGP Akshay Sachdeva, around 1,678 tourists, who were left stranded in Lachung and Chungthang towns, were successfully evacuated. More than 100 people remain stuck in Lachen.

Earlier on Monday evening, he also met Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma in Guwahati to discuss key inter-state concerns. Meanwhile, Three army personnel lost their lives and nine others went missing after a landslide struck a military camp in Chhaten in the state’s Mangan district on Sunday evening. The landslide was triggered by heavy rainfall in the region.

Over 19,000 were impacted in Manipur

Similarly, as per the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), a total of 938 people in 156 villages have been affected due to floods in Arunachal Pradesh. Governor Lt General K T Parnaik (Retd) has expressed grief over the loss of lives. He also urged people to remain alert, especially in areas that are prone to flooding and landslides.

In Manipur, more than 19,000 people have been impacted due to floods. Torrential rains have damaged at least 3,365 houses and affected 103 localities, while 19,811 residents have been displaced. A total of 31 relief camps have been set up. Amid severe waterlogging, the Manipur Fire Service, Assam Rifles, SDRF, NDRF, and the Indian Army carried out joint evacuation operations to rescue stranded people in Imphal.
