Nitin Gadkari inaugurates Hyderabad’s long-awaited Amberpet Flyover
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated Hyderabad’s Amberpet flyover, resumed the Uppal-Medipally project, and promoted Telangana’s expanding highway network, aiming five-hour connectivity statewide. He also highlighted the futuristic Regional Ring Road to transform urban mobility and regional infrastructure development.
Hyderabad:
At the official ceremony held at the Amberpet GHMC Grounds, Mr Gadkari hailed the structure as more than concrete and steel. In his address, he acknowledged the broader significance of the project, describing it as a symbol of perseverance in the face of complex challenges typical of dense urban zones.
In a move signalling renewed vigour for Telangana’s urban development, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, returned to Hyderabad to inaugurate the newly completed Amberpet flyover, a vital addition to the city’s rapidly evolving transport network. Centres commitment to reignite momentum behind several infra developments in Telangana
Beyond the celebratory ribbon-cutting, the Minister used the occasion to reignite momentum behind several long-stalled infrastructure developments across Telangana, chief among them, the Uppal-Medipally elevated flyover. Dormant for years due to land acquisition issues and administrative bottlenecks, the project is now back on track with a revised completion timeline of eight to ten months.
Mr Gadkari assured the public that the Centre would work hand-in-hand with the state government to ensure construction resumes under the same contractor and is rigorously monitored until completion.
Dramatic expansion of Telangana’s highway infrastructure
A key ambition, he revealed, is to ensure that any point in Telangana can be reached from Hyderabad within five hours, made possible by an expanding web of access-controlled expressways.
Casting a wider lens on the state’s infrastructure journey, the Minister noted the dramatic expansion of Telangana’s national highway network since 2014, a leap from 2,511 kilometres to over 5,000. He said this was part of a concerted national push to enhance regional connectivity and cut down travel times.
Gadkari talks about ongoing upgrade of LB Nagar to Malkapur stretch
However, it was the Minister’s vision for the Northern section of Hyderabad’s ambitious Regional Ring Road (RRR) that perhaps captured the greatest interest. Envisaged as a 162-kilometre modern expressway encircling the city, the Rs 16,000 crore initiative aims to overhaul urban mobility. Mr Gadkari suggested that the RRR could integrate futuristic features inspired by transport systems in Madrid and Delhi, including double-decker flyovers and underground parking infrastructure.
Attention also turned to the ongoing upgrade of the LB Nagar to Malkapur stretch. Valued at Rs 545 crore, the six-lane highway project is nearing the final stages of completion. With 75 per cent of the 23-kilometre corridor already upgraded, the works include new service roads, footpaths, and bridges. Once completed, officials expect the improvements to cut at least 25 minutes from daily commutes, a welcome change for thousands of regular travellers.
